Abha B. Roy

Since 1992, Mrs. Abha B. Roy has been frequently performing and conducting workshops and classes in New York for schools, universities, libraries and museums. Mrs. Roy has blazed a trail of her own in the sphere of Kathak by performing the classical dance style in with a personality, devotion, and discipline that is wholly her own. In doing so, Mrs. Roy seeks to evoke an entire spectrum of emotions within her viewers, through her performance of narratives and characters.

Once Ms. Roy completed her Masters of Geography, she started her career as a classical dancer. In 1984, after completing her degree in Kathak under the expert guidance of late great Guru Kundan Lal Gangani, she completed her specialization in Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. As a presenter for the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, Mrs. Roy taught and performed in South America, Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. She also has performed in Russia, Canada, and many European countries. In 1995 she performed at The Banff Center, in 2001, the World Trade Center, and also in 2001, she performed in the Lincoln Center. She continued to enthrall art lovers with her great performances in venues like NYC cultural festivals, The Queens Museum, Tellabration – Jewish Center, Flushing Town Hall, Long Island Children’s Museum, The Queens Borough Correctional Facility, etc.

Ms. Roy has been the director of the Srijan Dance Center since its founding in 1992. Mrs. Roy conducts Indian Culture residencies with both the NYC Department of Education and as a faculty member in the Flushing Town Hall education center.
